1 ak8802 anyone? on Wed 22 Sep 2010 - 0:04

Hello,

i got me a 7" ez book (or something like that) off ebay. when it boots it puts up a nice looking splash screen that reads "wireless netbook" Smile

despite seller's claim (on ebay page) that cpu is via vt8500 (which i wanted), it actually turned out to be anyka cpu Sad wince claims that processor type is "ANYKA, BSP04700-Nboot05306".

so, upon "closer inspection" Smile it turned out to be ANYKA AK8802TQ21604. the rest was pretty much what i expected to see, i.e. zentel a3s12d40etp-g4 sdram (256mb) and samsung k9gago84om nand flash (2g x 8bit).

i got pretty good laugh looking at "rubber chicken" wireless dongle wired directly to the usb port on the motherboard and handing on a piece of sticky rubber Smile other than this - nothing special except mysterious place for flex cable connector labeled CN1 at the edge of the motherboard. looks to me like 12 contacts, 0.5mm pitch. i hope this is where all the interesting stuff is, i.e. serial port and jtag Smile

the question is: has anyone seen ak8802 in the wild, and, dare i ask, has anyone seen a datasheet for it. according to http://www.arm.com/community/partners/display_product/rw/ProductId/3320/ ak88xx is similar to ak78xx but adds a couple of extra hardware features.

thanks,
max

a3s12d40etp-g4 is 512Mb(64MB)

Interesting. Have you taken some pictures of it? What is motherboard number under "rubber chicken"? What WinCE does it have? CPU Mhz?

sorry, typo, its a3s12d40etp-g5 actually Smile no, i did not take any pictures Sad but it looked very similar the pictures posted somewhere on this forum. there was no distinct m/b number (at least that i could tell). under "rubber chicken" there is a set of things that looked like test points. they are marked with D0, D1, ... D7, ALE, etc. to me its clearly flash signal lines.

according to the system properties it runs windows ce version 6.00 (build 3122). not sure about cpu frequency. haret complains about not being run in 'system' mode and thus 'major functionality will not be present' Sad i will keep poking around Smile

thanks,
max

Can you try to dump(backup) ROM using grabit_armv4? Then it would be possible to extract the files an maybe later restore it if needed, as there still no firmware restore for WINCE6.0 available.

hmmm... am i missing some special 'tools' section on this forum? if i do please point me to it. naive search for grabit_armv4 came back with this link

http://www.hjgode.de/dev/grabit/index.htm

all of the grabit utilities failed with "Cannot map 00000000" error. looking at the source i can see that it uses VirtualCopy() api to dump physical pages. not claiming to be a wince expert, but i doubt it will work in wince 6.0 as is, i.e. let me quote the following link here

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee483154.aspx

==

In Windows Embedded CE 6.0, Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R2, and Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R3, VirtualCopy is a kernel-mode-only function. For information about other kernel-mode only functions, see Kernel Mode APIs.

The one exception is that you can call VirtualCopy from user mode only from a user-mode driver, where its physical address range is specified in the registry. To port code that calls VirtualAlloc or VirtualCopy, consider doing one of the following, which are in order of preference in terms of security and robustness:

* Make the code that calls VirtualAlloc or VirtualCopy a driver.
* Make the code that calls VirtualAlloc or VirtualCopy into a DLL, and use LoadKernelLibrary to load it into kernel.
* Create a dummy kernel-mode driver that implements IOCTL_DO_VIRTUAL_COPY to call VirtualCopy.

just in case, i'm posting entire log from haret including output of 'ps' and 'lsmod' commands (i hope its ok). nothing earth shattering here, and, i'm sure you guys have seen it before. it never hurts to have someone else to look at it Smile just in case i missed something interesting Smile

so, this brings me back to my original question Smile anyone saw datasheet for anyka arm cpu's? there are claims in this forum that ak7802 datasheet, as well as wince bsp, and schematic for the motherboard were leaked/released. since ak8802 said to be similar to ak7802, i'd settle for it for now Smile

can someone (who has access to this information) at least please share information about jtag and serial pins? is this what that cn1 m/b connector is for? with jtag info one can poke at any register and dump anything directly and play with the hardware without risking to brick it Smile i have one of them 'universal jtag adapters' from http://www.diygadget.com/ -- a wise $20 investment if you ask me Smile wince bsp should provide a good starting point for u-boot port. there are also 2 places for jumpers/buttons on the m/b. one is labeled USB_BOOT and another is DL_JUMP. anyone knows what are those for?

to me its somewhat clear that my laptop is not using u-boot as its boot loaded (unlike many via vt85xx-based netbooks). hence, no sd-card booting, etc. i'm sure that whatever boot loader is there, it probably talks on serial port. so, once again, if someone has access to the information - please share!

thanks,
max

USB_BOOT - unclear if it is implemented, if you put a USB-stick at right USB ports then it is accessed at boot time even this button is not shorted but don't know for what.
DL_JUMP - used for firmware upgrade

well, i kinda figured out that DL stands for 'download' Smile the devil is in details Smile so, one shorts the jumper and then what? uses serial to talk to boot loader? something else?

if someone really has access to the schematic, can that person please check if JTAG signals, i.e. TDI, TCK, TMS, TRST and TDO are routed to any accessible pins on the motherboard? while at it, are there any TX and RX UART pins easily accessible?

come on, be a hero and share the information Smile i'm sure people will give credit where credit is due Smile

thanks,
max

Upgrade is made by using straight USB-USB A cable and holding DL_jumper shorted, then the netbook is slave USB device and can be found by PC. After that drivers+burntool program is used to upload the firmware. You can read this on forum. There is an upgrade option through USB flash using startup setup. USB stick is connected to side USB ports you can upload new XIP but be aware that it doesn't work or it needs a special format as it bricks netbooks. I tried.

Hi emax,

As you have realized, CN1 is actually the JTAG connector. The pinout is:

Pin Function
1 TDO
2 RTCK
3 TCK
4 TMS
5 GND
6 Connected to 3V3_CPU
7 Connected to 3V3_CPU
8 GND
9 DBG/nTRST
10 TDI
11 UART RDX0
12 UART TXD0

I have bought a Digikey OR753CT-ND part (0.5mm 12POS FPC connector) that seems to fit, but I am yet to build a breakout board to get access to the pins.

finally a bit of useful information Smile it appears that CN1 has both JTAG and serial. thanks a lot! digikey part no. is greatly appreciated!

hello,

checking-in Smile i did not fell off the earth Smile just waiting for some mail-order parts Smile in the mean time, here is the link that seem to describe the hardware in my wireless netbook

hello,

all mail-order parts are finally arrived Smile

- connector: digikey p/n OR753CT-ND (0.5mm 12pos fpc) - need at least 2 of those;

- mating flat flex cable: digikey p/n HFF-12U-04-ND (0.5mm 12pos) - i wish it was longer, but longer cables have lead times;

- smt connector board: SchmartBoard 202-0041-01

- headers: idc headers (male) - pins to install on SchmartBoard

also highly recommended smt flux, magnifying glass (good) and soldering station with low wattage iron and < 0.5mm soldering tip (which i already have). i'm going to put the whole thing together in the next few days and give it a try.

stay tuned!

thanks,
max

Hey, great find! I didn't know such things exist, I was hoping to ask a friend of mine to design a small expander board and fab it for a tenner. Smile

Let me know how it goes. I'm hoping to restart working on the Linux kernel bringup this weekend.

hello,

quick update. i've installed cn1 connector and made adapter board. i had a couple of hours today to play with it. so far, jtag is no go Sad trying to troubleshoot it.

one bit of information is that when i short DL_JUMP pins there is an output on uart0. it says

Aspen3_Usbboot>#

btw, in this case uart0 seems to be locked at 38400, 8n1, no flow control. one complication is that jtag pins apparently shared with pcm, and, something quickly sets those to be pcm and not jtag (during normal boot). i'm now trying to boot with DL_JUMP shorted (to prevent normal boot path). and, of course, there is no SRST jtag signal, arghhh....

thanks,
max

Motherboard: V10_FOR SPI JH_0701 Zenithink?

Boards are very similar, some differences I see is the proc, keyboard controller chip, LAN, Wifi?, unknown place for another chip in other side. So maybe if you will be able to dump it then there will be WinCE6.0 ROM for AK7802 too.

I have the same apparatus as in the picture.
I tried to do the following:
1) unsolder nand-flash memory chip, inserted it into the reader. My program does not know this type of chip. Fail.
2) solder wires to the contacts xD-kardreader and chip pins. no result.
3) tried to read the flash with the well-known programs directly from the operating system (win ce). None of them could read it.
Soldered chip back to the board and put it on the shelf. What else will do?

Try to use Mcnpro Box. It can read china mobile phones which are made on Anyka CPU's maybe it can read the device directly. This box uses the same driver "M3CHIP USB" so I suppose it is similar.

Found some leaked sources with Anyka console tool (with serial and USB read/write). It even compiles so maybe it is of any use for ak88 also. Try!
